Halleluiahs

Greetings
in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We
are in the season of lent, and in a few weeks we will be observing - a
day of
Hosanna, a night of the Lord’s Supper, next, a day of crucifixion
of our Lord
and then the early morning celebration of the resurrection of our Lord. Have you noticed we use some words very often
during these days?
For
example, the words ‘Hosanna’ and the
‘Halleluiah’ sung in these days will
reverberate through out the year as we sing songs and affirm the
greatness of
God in our worship. We often use the
word Halleluiah meaning ‘Praise the Lord.’
But do we know the meaning of the word Hosanna? ‘Hosanna’ - is an open adoration
of Jesus as
the Messiah and also means to seek the Messiah ‘to save
now’ echoing the
psalmist thoughts (Ps.118:25,26).
Who
used this word? It was the crowd at Jerusalem, which shouted
“Hosanna” at His
entry in and after five days turned murderous to shout “Crucify
Him!” to send
Him out. Even though Jesus accepted
their greetings, He knew that their expectation was far from what He
intended
for the mankind as a whole. They sought
Him to save them from the rule of Roman Empire; but He intended to save
their
souls from the slavery of sin and Satan.
Even
as we come to Jesus, many times we sing Hosanna to Him – seeking
to save us
from our sickness, struggles and solve the problems of our life. When we don’t seem to get what we sought
for,
we tend to ‘crucify Jesus’ by our rebellious &
disobedient life which
brings shame to His Name. Yes, friends, Jesus understands our
difficulties of
this life but He wants us to seek Him for freedom from our slavery to
Satan,
from our bondage to sinful life. His
offer of freedom will keep us clear from sin, root us in Him, and walk
us to
eternal life. We need to shout Hosanna
with adoration and understanding of Jesus’ power and authority
over sin and
Satan and this world.
So
in this season as you start singing ‘Hosanna’ – sing
with understanding. Do not sing just from
your lips; do sing
realizing your need to seek Jesus to save you from the clutches of your
sinful
nature. Seek Him to enter into your
heart and let Him reign forever in your life.
Then your ‘Halleluiahs’ will be
meaningful and acceptable to Jesus our
Risen Lord.
